Even in the most accurate measurements, a hypothetical error may lie. It can be scanty and in practical terms completely unimportant, but nevertheless, its existence will be known, which for idealists can become a serious obstacle. We all understand the technique loves precision. It is required for technical calculations of vehicles and for their production. Equally important is the accuracy in providing technical characteristics, what dimensions the car has: how much it weighs, what its power and torque are. Here with the latter just the most often, and there are problems.
Very often, if not to say that always, the power declared by the motor-car manufacturer is strikingly different from the real one (or, more accurately, the one that is measured on the dyno bench), and in the direction of overstating the first. It may seem that motorcycle manufacturers are trying to overestimate the figures in order to raise the value of their technology in comparison with competitors. But in reality, it is not so. Simply when conducting factory testing, so many variables are taken into account that it’s very difficult to trace them all on an ordinary dynamometer stand, or they simply can not show them.
Many US automotive websites conducted their research on a dynamometer motorcycle capacity bench in 2018, on the basis of which it was concluded that there was an approximate discrepancy between the performance of its measurements and the factory capacity. Then they compiled a rating of the ten most powerful motorcycles of the past year.
Before you look at the final list, it is worth making a short footnote.
Presented figures are typical for models created under the American market. In European and even more Japanese models, the power may be slightly different.
The power was measured based on independent tests.
List of 10 most powerful motorcycles in the world
10. The Yamaha R1 and R1M (186.4 hp. at 12,000 rpm)
Just a few months ago, in order to get on this list, only 179 hp was required. Then the entrance, the 10th place was occupied by Motus MST-R. Times have changed! Now the minimum for the top steel was 186 hp. and e. Has a Yamaha R1, leaving Motus behind and pushing down the 2015 specification of the Aprilia RSV4 and the old 1199 Ducati Panigale (whose tests showed 181 hp). The GSX-R1000 experienced fighter with its 182.4 hp could not stand the competition either. Given the investment of huge investments in Yamaha, they could hope for a higher figure than this.
9. BMW S1000RR (190.4 hp at 12,500 rpm)
More recently, the previous model HP4 (derivative of S1000RR) could only be satisfied with the last place of the table. The new base road version of 2015 was tightened, its capabilities grew to 190 hp. It is noteworthy that the year before last sportbikes with a similar engine power could count on the sixth place. This is to the extent to which the technologies of internal combustion engines of new generations advance rapidly.
8. Suzuki Hayabusa (194.4 hp at 9,500 rpm)
As Americans are accustomed to powerful engines V8 in their cars, and for Suzuki Hayabusa has become accustomed to take off their horsepower with a 1.300 cc engine. “The old horse does not spoil the furrow,” the old saying repeats. To Hayabusa this saying can be applied and this time. Till now the old man gives heat! Measurements on the dyno showed a result very close to 200 hp, to which only 5.6 “horses” were not enough.
This power directly indicates that the technologies that were originally used on Hayabusa for a long time ahead of their time. Without serious modifications, Japanese engineers manage to steadily raise the power of their superbike.
7. Ducati 1199 Panigale R and Superleggera (194.4 hp at 11,250 rpm)
Perhaps the old 1299 Panigale left the list, but the version made for homologation R still remains in it, along with Superleggera, which shares the same engine specification. The same strength as Hayabusa from V-Twin, which is 100 cc less, is a remarkable achievement.
6. Ducati 1299 Panigale and Panigale S (194.4 hp at 10,500 rpm)
Look at what 100 dice are capable of. The previous base model 1199 Panigale developed “only” 181 hp, in 2018 a few additional cubes raise the power to 194.4 hp. With the increased volume, the speed at which the power peak was reached was reduced to 750 rpm, compared to the similar performance of the Superleggera or the R version.
5. MV Agusta F4, F4R, F4RR and F4RC (197.1 hp at 13,600 rpm)
We must admire the achievement of MV Agusta in creating the F4 engine so surprisingly powerful. Without three horses, 200 horsepower! And all this despite the fact that we have just 998 cubes of basic design, which, among other things, it is difficult to call the newest. In 2016, it will be replaced by a completely new four-cylinder engine. What does it mean? We are confident that Agusta will be able to overcome the power limit of 200 hp. for his sports line.
4. Kawasaki Ninja H2 (197.1 hp at 11,000 rpm)
The power of the Kawasaki H2, as it turned out, exactly corresponded to the claimed 197 hp. Track H2R has shown how much the performance of the same engine can be different when it does not have to meet the environmental emission limits. Nevertheless, such a motorcycle on the road will not be released. But in H2 with environmental friendliness everything is in order, this is one of the most “green” sportbikes on the market.
3. Yamaha V-Max (197.4 hp at 9,000 rpm)
Another legend, V-Max. Despite their very strange roots, in the intricacies of which obvious signs of incest are seen, the model repeatedly shows high results. Its huge 1.679-cc engine easily yields 197.4 hp. at 9.000 rpm. Such indicators were received by the Americans during their measurements. According to the torque, this 1.6-liter engine in general on the head surpassed all rivals. The only negative V-Max is logical – it is excessively heavy.
2. Aprilia RSV4 RR, RSV4 RF (198.5 hp at 13,000 rpm)
Second place. The made list clearly shows how difficult it is for motor-car manufacturers to step over a threshold of 200 hp. How much is this a difficult task?
Most recently, Aprilia had a motor in the “modest” 181 hp, but the latest settings for the motorcycle of the 2018 model year made a serious improvement. The result is 198.5 hp, the most powerful serial liter bike, being sold in America at the moment. It’s amazing why such a technological masterpiece is bought by so few people.
1. Kawasaki ZX-14R (ZZR1400) (207.9 hp at 10,000 rpm)
It was number one last time among the 10 most powerful motorcycles in the world and it remains to this day. ZX-14R did not cause any special problems, 2018 will show whether the hegemony will continue in the future.
The ZX-14R, known as the ZZR1400 in Europe, can be atavism from the point of view of the wars of the maximum Blackbird / Busa / ZX-12R speeds, the turn of the millennium, but there is no doubt that it is not effective.
Power is not the main thing in a motorcycle. So it is possible that the most powerful sports bike of all cannot show the most impressive results on the track. Nevertheless, an additional 10 horses can always come in handy on straight sections, on which it will be difficult to find equal ZX-14R.
