In terms of land area, Japan is the smallest nation on this top ten list, making it number ten in population density. That means the most people squeezed into the least space! Though Japan is one of the most developed countries but the government is worried about this rapid growth in population
9. RUSSIA (142 MILLION)
Russia is the largest country in the world, but only 9th in terms of the number of people. Most of its large population is in major cities in the western part of the country, especially its capital, Moscow.
8. BANGLADESH (166 MILLION)
Hot, wet weather and the crowded conditions have made Bangladesh one of the poorest nations on Earth. Most of its population are farmers growing food only for themselves. Packing the 166 million people, Bangladesh is struggling for its economy.

1. CHINA (1.3 BILLION)
The Chinese government was so worried about the population growth of the country that it started a controversial plan. As of 1980, families were only allowed to have one child each. Families with more than one child would face fines or penalties.
This did help to]ower the birth rate, but it also meant that many families abandoned unwanted children, especially girls. Why girls? Because boys were seen to be more likely to earn money later to take care of their elderly parents. However, in 2015, the Chinese government decided to end this policy and allow families to have two children.
